Dust mites are microscopic spider like creatures which feed on flakes of human skin and are invisible to the naked eye.  They thrive in warm, moist places such as beds, bedding, duvets, pillows, curtains, vertical blinds, carpets and soft furnishings.

Other "bugs" are now appearing inside mattresses, such as the larger "Bed Bug".  Adults are approximately 5mm long, reddish brown in colour (becoming purple after feeding), have well developed antennae, prominent simple eyes and clawed feet, and have a flattened oval shape.  They are predominately "blood suckers" and not regarded as disease carriers, but their blood feeding can cause severe irritation in some people resulting in loss of sleep, lack of energy and listlessness, particularly in children.
